Beendigen is currently seeking an Accounting Assistant!! Come Join our team! The Accounting Assistant provides support to the Finance Manager with day to day functions of the Finance Department including but not limited to processing payables and receivables, payroll, inputting transactions into the accounting system and maintaining rent ledgers. Hours of work consist of 21 per week; which may include evening, weekends, and additional hours to accommodate activities such as representing the organization at meetings, conferences, workshops and public events.

- To work from a holistic perspective, utilizing the teachings of the medicine wheel and Seven Grandfather Teachings
- To take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation of Beendigen's cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables
- To utilize Elders and Knowledge Keepers for teachings, healing and guidance. To assist in the preparation of monthly finance reports
- To assemble monthly finance packages for committee and board meetings
- To update monthly supporting payroll records and other finance spreadsheets
- To maintain confidentiality of all financial data
- To adhere to GAAP, Housing Services Act and applicable legislation
- To review and maintain employee details in various finance department records
- To maintain finance department electronic and hard copy files.
- To assist in audit preparation
- To be an active member of the Finance Team and participate in the development of Beendigen's Finance Department
- To participate in initiatives with broader Violence Against Women networks
- To attend meetings, workshops, seminars and training pertaining to Beendigen's mandate
- To be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the organization
- To represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times
- Any other duties as requested by the Finance Manager; commensurate with role.

- Degree or Diploma in Accounting/Bookkeeping, Finance or similar field
- 1 to 3 years relevant experience. Relative experience may be considered
- An understanding and willingness to embrace the Organization's mandate in all aspects of the role
-Intermediate to advanced computer skills and internet use
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases, and other required software
- Proficient to advanced knowledge of Sage or similar accounting software
- Knowledge related to relevant laws and legislation
- Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Able to work unsupervised and as part of a team
- Ability to operate all office equipment
- Preferred: Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, tradition, language and communities
- Demonstrated commitment to the Violence Against Women sector
