PIC MOBERT FIRST NATION NOTICE OF CAREER OPPORTUNITY Band General Manager The Netimizaagamig Nishnaabeg (Pic Mobert First Nation) is a diverse, dynamic and growing Ojibway Nation of approximately 1,000 members, including a community of approximately 400 population, located within our traditional territory on White Lake in Northwestern Ontario. Our leadership has made significant strides in recent years advancing self governance, including ratifying our own Constitution/Chi Naaknigewin, signing an agreement for self-governance in education, advancing on a major land claim, expanding our reserve lands and infrastructure, and building a diversity of private enterprises and business assets. As part of a reorganization of our management functions to support the increasing scale and complexity of our operations, we are seeking applications for the position of BAND GENERAL MANAGER, a position located in our administrative offices in Mobert, Ontario.

- Reporting to the Chief and Council through the Chief, and working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Band General Manager has overall responsibility for leadership and management of all operational concerns of the Pic Mobert First Nation, including human resources and health and safety, and the development, monitoring and enforcement of local legislation and policies.
- The Band General Manager is responsible for managing up to 65+ staff members, led by a small team of program managers, for the development and delivery of programs in the areas of finance, education, human resources, economic development, lands and resources, housing, health and social services, Ontario Works, lands and resources, and public works. He/she will also serve as the principal liaison for the Band membership on service quality matters.
- The Band General Manager will ensure that all operations are conducted in a respectful and responsible way, ensuring that all decisions and actions meet the relevant legislation, policies, procedures and budget.
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in business, management, public administration and finance or an equivalent of education and experience;
- Must have at least 7-10 years of proven senior management experience, optimally within an Aboriginal community or organization;
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to inspire, support, and manage a group of managers of varying disciplines and qualifications;
- Ability to multi-task and handle a variety of constantly changing demands and pressures while continuing to advance on the strategic direction of the organization and community;
- Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of MS Office programs;
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral;
- Effective and proven project and program planning and management capabilities;
- Effective and proven negotiation skills;
- Exceptional public relations and conflict management skills;
- Working knowledge of applicable human resources & health and safety legislation;
- Strong established networks in government and other organizations provides supports and services to Indigenous communities;
- Valid drivers license and access to a reliable, personal vehicle;
- Ability to work effectively with varying personalities;
- Provide a current credit bureau report, CPIC and drug test the results of which are satisfactory to the employer, in its sole discretion;
- Ability to work irregular and extended hours and to travel
- A valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- The successful applicant will be required to pass a drug test, provide a satisfactory criminal records cheque and be current on all financial commitments to the Pic Mobert First Nation, prior to commencing employment.
- This is a full-time position that is based in our First Nation community and will demand a very high level of commitment.
