PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Bookkeeper provides bookkeeping and clerical support to ensure that First Nation financial requirements are met in an effective and efficient manner.

 1. Provide bookkeeping and administrative support services in order to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance Office for both Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek and its subsidiaries (such as Papasay Value Added Wood Products).
Main Activities
a. Prepare and process bill payments including matching invoices to purchase orders and other supporting documents.
b. Reconcile a variety of accounts (supplier account statements, bank statements, etc).
c. Prepare and record estimates, invoices and receipts
d. Prepare account analysis
e. Assist with banking including making deposits and payments at financial institutions.
f. Assist with payroll and other financial systems.
g. Respond to staff inquiries for financial information within approved limits
h. Assist with preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and related analysis.
2. Perform clerical tasks to facilitate financial management and controls.
Main Activities
a. Maintain an organized system for open purchase orders and payments
b. Maintain well-organized electronic and hardcopy record-keeping and filing systems
c. Maintain up-to-date Vendor and Departmental listings including approved vendor listings and complete customer records
d. Track and maintain records of financial policy overrides to identify problems, training needs and organizational/policy development issues.
3. Provides general relief and support to the Receptionist a. Covers the reception desk for morning and afternoon coffee breaks b. Assists with overflow by greeting/referring visitors and answering telephone calls
4. Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications and Professional Certifications The Bookkeeper would normally attain the required knowledge, skills and attributes through completion of an accounting diploma (or equivalent) in conjunction with at least 1 year of relevant work experience in a non-profit or First Nation work environment.
A valid driver's license is an asset.
Knowledge The Bookkeeper must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- Accounting software (QuickBooks and PayDirt experience preferred)
- Standard accounting and bookkeeping procedures including reconciling and maintaining accounts, preparing journal entries and financial statements, HST rebates, chart of accounts and general ledger management.
- A general understanding of BNA's Members and its socio-economic, cultural and political environment
Skills The Bookkeeper must demonstrate the following skills:

- computer skills including the ability to operate accounting, spreadsheet, word-processing, email and other office productivity applications at a highly proficient level
