Counsellors provide our campers with a positive and supportive experience, where they are encouraged to develop resilience and other important life skills. They deliver high quality, youth-focused programming through guiding multi-day wilderness canoe and hiking trips. They are responsible for assessing risk and ensuring safety of campers and staff at all times.

Duties:
- provide active supervision and establish relationships with youth that reflect respect, trust and empathy
- support the successful execution of on-site core programming and assist on multi-day wilderness trips
- support the successful execution of trip logistics including , pack-out, pack-in, menu selection, and participate in equipment maintenance (repair and replacement) practices
- encourage camper development through their own processing and readiness, and recognize their achievements
- identify, assess and appropriately manage risks and off-site crises
- provide mentorship, knowledge and skill transfer to other staff and campers
- be challenged physically and mentally as you live in an overnight camp and wilderness setting for 10 day sessions, with 2 days of break in between
Qualifications:
- pursuing post-secondary education in recreation, outdoor/adventure education, environmental sciences, or related field
- strong at group facilitation and successfully adapt facilitation style based on individual or group needs
- equipped with good judgment and decision-making skills; you know when to bring in key team members as it relates to escalated concerns
- fit to participate in multi-day wilderness backpacking/canoeing trips, and maintain energy and focus to support campers in physical and emotional obstacles
- Able to participate and complete in Wilderness Water Safety and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) training - this is provided at no cost
- able to provide an acceptable criminal background check
- Able to join us between May 26, 2019 to August 30, 2019
