Duties:
The Community Sustainability Intern will work with NCS partners and clients to develop and implement projects throughout Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba. It is expected that the intern will be able to work from home, provided good access to broadband, and unless located in the head office in Thunder Bay, will only be required to go to job sites for work. The Community Sustainability Intern will work with clients to develop sustainable projects in renewable energy, sustainable use of plastics, entrepreneurship and food security operations. The intern will be responsible to ensure that that client objectives and needs are met. Working directly with NCS's principals, the successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of Northern Community Solutions Projects and will attain strong experience in financial and business development, engineering and technology applications as well as cutting edge technology and systems, new to the Canadian market.
We expect that the successful candidate will not have training and experience in all key areas. Fundamentally, candidates must demonstrate experience in sustainable systems, technology and basic business skills.
Qualifications:
- A degree or diploma in a STEM or business related field is preferred.
- Experience or desire to work in environmentally or sustainable activities is required.
- This employment opportunity will provide on-the-job and specialized training for the right candidate and additional opportunities at the end of the contract for full-time placement.
- *If you do not have a degree or diploma but can show a track record of work and knowledge you've gained outside of traditional post-secondary institutes, these skills and qualities will be examined.

We are looking for the following traits in a new team member:
- Passion for learning new skills and increasing knowledge
- Entrepreneurial spirit and a demonstrated record of innovation and self motivation
- In depth knowledge of renewable energy including biomass and solar PV systems, general knowledge of construction processes, project coordination and basic business development
- A degree or diploma in engineering or an applicable trade
- A passion for energy efficiency and sustainability
- A positive attitude and and engaging team member
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with fundamental construction/ fabrication techniques
- Demonstrated knowledge of the basics of sustainable energy and sustainability in general
- Experience supporting First Nation communities
- Strong time management ability
- Project management or coordination experience is considered a plus.

Misc.:
Travel is additional to base salary, hour / time flexibility can be accommodated due to mostly remote nature of work.
