Duties:
Overview:
Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Officer is responsible for all areas related to financial reporting. The position is responsible for maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reports. The Finance Officer will manage company finances to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. The position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting and finance activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
Summary of Duties:
-Direct financial activities of the organization and all corporate entities related to Biigtigong Dbenjgan.
-Maintain all accounting functions of corporate entities related to Biigtigong Dbenjgan including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, month & year end procedures, budget preparation and analysis, contract review and maintenance, administer payroll when necessary, etc.
-Preparation of reports which summarize and forecast business, financial and cash flow activities in areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past present and future operations.
-Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies, when required.
-Identify, develop and implement work practices to reduce operation inefficiencies and improve systems.
-Maintain employee travel requests and advances including weekly reporting and collection of outstanding reconciliations
-Administer payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable
-Provide administrative support in order to ensure effective and efficient office operations.
-Attend meetings, training and sit on committees as required
-Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications, skills and abilities. This list will be used to develop a screening tool. It is the responsibility of the candidate to communicate his/her expertise & experience in these areas.
Qualifications Education & Work Experience:
-Post-Secondary Diploma -accounting and/or business related course
-Ontario Secondary School Diploma Grade 12
-Minimum 2 years work experience in an accounting or finance related position
-Certified bookkeepers designation or other software certification Knowledge, skills & abilities
-Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
-Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, maintaining general ledgers and financial reporting.
-Knowledge of payroll functions and procedures and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information
-Excellent interpersonal, team building, bookkeeping, analytical, time management and problem solving skills.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Advanced computer skills in Xyntax & Office 365
-Experience with other bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks Online or Sage 50
-Experience working with First Nation Governments, understanding of community dynamics, sensitivities and cross-cultural awareness.
-The ability to conduct oneself professionally in fast paced high energy work environment -Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information
-The ability to maintain good working relationships with other government and public sector agencies.
-Ability to work flexible hours as required
-Must possess a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel
Misc.:
 Note: Preference will be given to PRFN Band members with the above qualifications, experience and skill set. Work Hours: 35 Hours/week (Flextime as required) Salary: To Be Determined
