As the Forest Operations Technical Specialist, you will be responsible to administer the compliance program, inspect infrastructure, monitor field operations, and enforce health & safety and environmental management systems across the Big Pic, Pic River and White River Forest Management Units. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will also be required to assist in monitoring progress of operations such as harvesting and silviculture to ensure compliance with approved plans and budgets.
-Post-secondary education with a diploma in forestry;
-General awareness of Ontario government forestry legislation, policies, guidelines and regulations;
-Broad understanding of operational forestry practices and forest management planning; -Some knowledge and understanding of operational costs and pricing;
-Proficient in Microsoft Office, GPS, use of tablets, and working knowledge of GIS;
-Valid drivers license with a clean record;
-Ability to work outside, year-round, in adverse weather.
-Willingness to live in a remote community. Assets:
-Experience in operational, silvicultural, or forest management company activities;
-Hold forestry related resource licences or certificates (e.g. compliance inspector, scalers licence, competent bridge inspector, forestry common core, etc.);
-Enthusiasm and a passion for forestry;
-Ability to work independently with limited supervision;
-Ability to collaborate and contribute in a team environment;
-Bear awareness training, first aid training, forest operations health and safety training, pesticide license are assets but not a requirement;
-Bilingual (French) is an asset, but not a requirement Salary and benefits will be commensurate based on experience and education.
