Reporting to the Mine General Manager and with corporate accountability to the VP Operations, the successful candidate will proactively manage the operational requirements in the development, implementation and review of strategy, policy, standards, procedures and practices relating to health and safety objectives of Pure Gold Mining. Working in a manner which ensures Federal and Provincial regulatory compliance and drives the operation towards best practices and on-going behaviours for a safe and healthy work environment.

 The focus of this role will include:
Develop and facilitate the implementation of health and safety risk assessment and action plans and safe operating procedures in a manner which meets best practice standards and ensures continual improvement in the reduction of accident and injury within the mine 
Monitor and report on health & safety performance of the mine and provide recommendations for enhancements/improvements
Drive the development of a culture based on ownership and accountability to increase safety awareness which is identifiable at all levels of the operation
Identify, investigate, report and provide guidance relative to causes for safety incidents
Manage the internal and external audit requirements and make recommendations for improved performance relating to areas of non-compliance 
Provide training, resources and continuous development for mine personnel relating to best practises in health and safety
Ensure compliance with all safety requirements and ensure all company policies and procedures are followed
Maintain currency with new legislation as it relates to health and safety standards
Liaise with key contractors and industry professionals
 Skills and Experience:
Undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate in Health and Safety Management with a minimum of ten (10) years experience in a similar role in heavy industry/mining 
Proven experience of strong leadership and team building skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse workforce
Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
Mine construction and/or commissioning experience considered an asset
Mine rescue experience required 
Superior communication skills
