Are you looking for an adventure and a different pace of life? We're hiring HOUSEKEEPING, SERVING & KITCHEN HELP for Loch Island Lodge and Camp Lochalsh, our two remote fishing lodges on Wabatongushi Lake in the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve. No experience required, just the ability to do physical work and thrive in a wilderness environment! Every summer we host a staff of 10-14 people between Loch Island Lodge (our central boat-in/fly-in operation, primarily American Plan) and historical Camp Lochalsh, which requires self-guided work. We rent 5 outpost cabins on the lake, with 17 cabins in total. This is an ideal job for students! Contract length is May 10 to September 1st or 30th. Please note your availability in a cover letter. Duties:
 Daily Job Tasks
- A team of 4-5 hospitality staff rotate weekly on serving, kitchen prep, housekeeping, and laundry, scheduled according to ability and managers discretion. The team is led by a manager with 6 seasons of experience.
- Our dining room/patio fits 30+ guests and we can host 70+ between all facilities, so the schedule is very dynamic. For example, some days require 10 hours of work and others require 3 hours; you must be ready for anything! - You must be confident in operating a boat alone in various weather conditions (will train) as you will work between two lodges and five outposts.
SERVING: Set tables with cutlery and condiments, set up/take down continental breakfast, wait on guests, bus tables, wash dishes, and clean dining room. We offer plate service only, no menu or bartending, perfect for new servers.
KITCHEN HELP: Prep vegetables/toppings for salad bar (wash and slice vegetables, restock items, check expiry dates). Assist with basic food prep, washing dishes, cleaning kitchen and lodge. Handle food items with proper protocols.
HOUSEKEEPING: Clean lodge common areas and bathroom and the staff residence. Bleach cabin kitchens and bathrooms, empty trash, make beds, replace toiletries, sweep and mop floors. Outpost cabins require the same services you must operate a boat by yourself and carry 25-50 lb. items up docks and stairs!
LAUNDRY: Soak, wash, dry, and fold the sheets, towels, and bedding. Use bleach and chemical stain removers safely.
ASSORTED TASKS: Answer phone and take messages, issue fishing licences (will train), restock clothing and tackle displays, garden, paint cabins, assist with taking trash to the dump and picking up supplies.
Qualifications:
 Mandatory Requirements
- You must be legal to work in Canada (citizenship or visa).
- You must complete the Pleasure Craft Operator Card online course (approx. $50 at your own cost) before the season starts.
- Speak, read, and write English
- Lift 25 to 50 lb. items (firewood, food crates, water jugs, gas tanks)
- Work on feet for 4-8 hours per day - Avoid use of alcohol, cannabis, and other substances during work hours
- Handle high-stress situations and timed tasks
- Focus and maintain high standards of quality when working on a team or alone
- Be accountable and sign off on checklists
- Enjoy spending time in the outdoors
- Above all, you can handle the unpredictability and isolation of living in a remote environment! Having lodge or hospitality experience is a major asset but we can train any willing candidate. Most staff are college-aged so you must work well with the 18-25 years age range.
Misc.:
 The Wabatongushi Lake Advantage - Salary is $2300/month (based on 6-8 hrs/day 6 days/wk) with 4 days off per month. Average tips $2500+ in CAD/USD cash, group tips shared equally. No bonds or hidden deductions! - FREE room and board on-site (includes laundry and satellite wifi/TV), FREE use of boats, fuel, live bait, kayaks, paddle boards. We want staff to go fishing!
- You do not need a Drivers License or Smart Serve. The only certificate required is the Pleasure Craft Operators Card (but First Aid and Safe Food Handling are assets). Boat training is done with safe and easy 18cedar strips.
- We do not fund travel but provide free parking or a pick-up at a transportation point (Sault Ste Marie, ON airport, Wawa bus stop, railroad flag stop, carpool).
- We seek to rehire competent staff season after season, offering raises, further training, and promotions as available for roles.
