The Marathon Lead hand is an essential part of the terminal operations in Marathon, specifically with inbound and outbound trailers and day to day operations within the terminal and the communities we service. The lead hand will carry out all the front line activities of the dock/terminal and parcel/freight deliveries throughout Marathon and work productivity with a team of drivers that come in throughout the day to ensure maximum efficiencies, profit maximization and overall smooth operations.

Duties and responsibilities:
-Participates as an active team member by assisting in the movement of freight on the dock(Terminal) and throughout Marathon
-Monitor the use of equipment to maximize utilization and efficiency to ensure load factors and service levels to minimize claims and damaged freight/equipment
-Communicate with other terminals ie. Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie to ensure proper paperwork goes with freight
-Prior forklift experience is essential in the unloading and loading of trailers in order to maintain efficiencies and ensure proper freight handling and safety is used daily
-Assist in solving freight problems, missing documentation as they arise and work alongside staff in a positive manner
-Monitor dock for efficiency and cleanliness and foster a positive and safe work environment
-Manage inventory of tools and supplies to reduce risk, loss and damage throughout the terminal
-Assists as needed in other Dock functions that support operations goals and objectives
-Ensure EXPRESS freight coming from other terminals is being delivered the day it arrives ( 1 day turnaround)
-Loading tablet information to handhelds and knowledge of computers is essential to this role
-Complete all other duties as assigned and require to fulfill daily company obligations
-Experience working in a large commercial/industrial facility leading a team is an asset.
-Ideally, you have a minimum of one year experience in general freight operations.
-Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure and manage critical and unplanned requirements.
-Strong interpersonal skills to foster and build working relationships with business unit leaders in addition to vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
-Working knowledge of WHMIS, Dangerous Goods and the Health & Safety Act.
-Prior experience and certification using a forklift an asset.
 Physical Requirements
-For this position you will be required to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for long periods of time.
-The operation of power and manual tools on a regular daily basis.
-They will be responsible for operating forklifts in a sitting position.
-Regular use of computers and tablets
