The 30-musician Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra (TBSO) now entering its 59th season performs between 50 and 60 concerts a season, including public concerts, education concerts and fundraising events. Thanks to a one-time funding opportunity from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, the TBSO is seeking a Digital Librarian Intern to work with the TBSO Librarian to assess the existing paper library archive, identify errors and omissions in the digital catalogue, streamline the digital archiving process, build file sharing processes into the library system for remote use by music directors and musicians, and create a development path that could lead to full digitalization of library functions.

Duties include:
Consult with the Librarian, Music Director, Resident Conductor and Operations Manager to determine present and future digital archiving requirements for the orchestra
Work with the Librarian to return all loose sheet music to the appropriate files
Pull all files in sequence, examine contents of each file comparing contents to existing digital records, and update digital records to correspond to actual contents of each physical file
Work with Librarian and Executive Director to assess present digital archiving system, and research and identify available replacement software systems that allow remote file sharing
Organize and file all live concert recordings, create system to digitally catalogue all recordings (currently on compact disc) Index recorded concerts with actual sheet music performed at each concert
Assist Librarian in general library duties and functions, ongoing
Perform general library duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess acute attention to detail, experience in music library processes, computer literacy in data entry and data management, knowledge of bowings and other markups, and the ability to work in a multi-dimensional, dynamic and collaborative environment, while maintaining a positive demeanour.
The successful candidate should be a graduate in at least one of the following areas:
Music Library Sciences Degree with concentration in Archival Studies or Digital Curation Records Information Management
Applicant must be a university or college graduate who has graduated within the last three years from an accredited post-secondary institution
Applicant must be a graduate of a post-secondary degree or diploma program
Must be the first employment in the applicant's field of study
Applicant must not have been funded by the NOHFC internship program at any other time
Applicant must be legally entitled to work in Canada
The Digital Librarian Intern will report directly to the Librarian, and consult with the Music Director on sheet music archiving requirements. This is a one-year full-time position. This opportunity is made possible by NOHFC:
