Vessel Guard (Shutdown) The role of the Vessel Guard can vary somewhat depending on the area of the Mill that the employee is working in. Sitting: In some areas the Vessel Guard may not be able to sit in front of their vessel because there may not be enough room to accommodate a chair or stool. The person may have to stand for extended periods of time.

Standing: The vessel guard may have to stand for extended periods of time due to the area. In some areas he/she may have to kneel and bend down due to the confined area. Walking/Stairs/Ladders: The Vessel Guard may have to climb stairs or ladders in order to get to the vessel. Some areas may be hard to get to (ie. climb over/under pipes). Emergency Response: In all cases, in the event of an emergency situation, the vessel guard will have to respond in a quick fashion. He/she could be required to assist the able-bodied workers while exiting the confined space.

Expectations:

-Ensure safety procedures are followed

-Learn basic gas testing techniques and equipment operation in order to monitor safe gas levels.

Fire Watch The role of the Fire Watch employee is that of Fire Prevention. The position is considered to be of medium level physical demands and is generally needed during a major maintenance shutdown.

The employee must be able to:

-Use a fire hose and fire extinguisher.

-Be able to monitor the area where hot work is being done.

-Know how the hot work permit system works.

-Be ready for emergency response.

-Seal up floor openings and hang fire blankets where needed.

-Learn the hazards in the area of the job.
