As part of the OKC team, the Volunteer Coordinator will:

  • implement a volunteer management program to coordinate, recruit, train, and evaluate volunteers to support programs and services
  • will help to support the volunteers in the areas of life skills and leadership development within the community sites that they attend.
  • Will assist with the coordination and implementation of special events OKC involves families in all aspects of program planning, implementation and evaluation.

- Demonstrated ability and experience in supporting hard to reach families
- Recruit, coordinate, and schedule volunteers for special events as necessary
- Present Volunteer Leadership training sessions for the volunteers (e.g. group dynamics, conflict resolution, etc.)
- Expand presentation tools and materials for volunteer recruitment presentations
- Maintain and update the catalogue of volunteer position descriptions
- Ensure coordination of recruitment, screening, orientation, placement, training, supervision, and recognition of all volunteers
- Provide on-going support of the Volunteer Leadership Program within the agency
- Liaise with Volunteer Thunder Bay, TBAVA and related community programs for the purpose of sharing volunteer resources
- Maintain the volunteer database within the organization
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office software
- Meet the demands of a variety of volunteers
- Develop marketing strategies to recruit new volunteers to the organization
- To assist with the planning, development, management, and execution of fundraising initiatives including OKC led and third-party special events, donation appeals & recognition and appreciation receptions.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with event sponsors, committee members, volunteers, and community third party event organizers.
Post-secondary degree or certificate in Volunteer Management, Event Management or equivalent experience
Demonstrated program development and leadership skills
Experience in human resource management, communications and public relations
Group facilitation skills, with familiarity of or experience with adult education methods
Ability to train, motivate and supervise volunteers and staff
Demonstrated experience as a volunteer in the community
a solid understanding of and demonstrated experience in community development
an ability to support groups to act on their ideas and encourage independence
group facilitation skills
familiarity or experience with adult education methods
good communication and interpersonal skills
strong organizational and presentation skills
a positive attitude and an ability to make people feel comfortable at the door

First Aid & CPR
Regular hours are Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm; however, candidate must have a willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
