United Way of Thunder Bay is currently seeking a Youth Engagement Coordinator Intern. Reporting to the CEO, the Intern will work within the United Way's special event and community impact departments and act as a liaison between the organization and various youth and youth groups throughout the city. The goal of this position is to develop initiatives to better our community, build capacity among youth, and to amplify a 'youth movement' in our city. This work will help build capacity in youth and promote volunteerism and community engagement, while also encouraging youth pride and a sense of belonging in the community.

- Develop, coordinate and implement the United Way of Thunder Bay's Youth United initiative
- Conduct research into other United Way's work with youth
- Develop a better understanding of youth communities and their needs in Thunder Bay
-  Contacting existing youth groups and councils to learn about their work
- Develop engagement strategies to be used by the United Way and other community organizations to successfully connect with diverse youth throughout our community
- Engage the various school boards in Thunder Bay and facilitate relationship-building between community organizations and the education system
- Promote civic engagement and volunteerism among Thunder Bay's youth
- Identify gaps and barriers faced by youth in Thunder Bay and propose recommendations to strengthen the United Way of Thunder Bay's community impact allocations process
- Develop and continually update a "Best Practices for Working with Youth" document
- Facilitate youth-based participatory impact initiatives for the United Way of Thunder Bay
- Research additional potential streams of funding to amplify the United Way of Thunder Bay's work with youth.
- Must be a university or college graduate within the last three years in a program related to Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Community Development, or a related field
- This position must also provide the intern with first time employment in the related fields of study as mentioned above
- Experience and knowledge of digital platforms and digital communications is a strong asset
- Experience working with youth is an asset
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases
- Current Police Record Check
- Must be able to work flexible hours
- Valid Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle is required
