Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Public Works Superintendent with assistance from the Treasurer, the
Asset Management Coordinator will assist staff in the development and maintenance of a
corporate-wide asset management registry for the Township of Manitouwadge. The position is
responsible to assist in the development of the life cycle cost analysis and asset risk management
to better assist Administration and Council in determining and prioritizing expenditures related
to the replacement/rehabilitation of municipal assets and infrastructure. This includes, but is not
limited to, establishing service levels and risk management practices for roads, bridges,
sidewalks, water mains, sewers, buildings, and facilities.


Additional related duties of the Asset Management Intern include:
- Develop life-cycle management programs for infrastructure assets, including roads,
bridges, sanitary collection and treatment systems, water distribution systems, storm
water management systems, solid waste transfer sites, buildings and building systems,
and other tangible capital assets (TCA’s);
-Incorporate existing asset management processes, tools and initiatives into a single
corporate reporting structure and inventory system to be used in conjunction with
existing municipal GIS data;
- Coordinate and/or perform condition assessments of all municipal infrastructure assets
on an on-going basis;
- Work with various departments to estimate future costs for replacement, rehabilitation,
or general maintenance requirements for all assets using industry standard practices;
- Review impacts of continued growth of existing assets with consideration to resources
required to maintain service levels, as well as identifying future service expansion and
required resources;
- Collaborate with the Finance department to provide technical information for long term
financial planning, Tangible Capital Assets and full cost accounting function;
-Review, research and report on technical specifications and standards related to
infrastructure construction and maintenance in an effort to improve current programs
and systems;
- Perform cost/benefit analysis and risk management analysis related to asset
management;
-Assist in annual budgeting and 10-year capital plan formulation, utilizing information
derived from the Asset Management System;
- Undertake other tasks, projects and responsibilities as required or assigned within the
scope of the position.

Qualifications:
 

Qualifications
-Graduate of a college or university from any country with qualifications in a field of study
in Engineering Technology, Asset Management, Accounting or Business Management;
- Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills;
-Strong organizational and customer service skills;
-Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
-High degree of accuracy with Microsoft Office and CityWide software including the Asset
Management and Maintenance Manager programs;
-Familiarity with various GIS tools is considered an asset;
-Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle;

The internship is a one-year, full-time contract position (35 hours per week).

The Township of Manitouwadge is located halfway between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay,
nestled within the heart of nature. The Boreal forest and Canadian Shield are our backdrop with
mining and forestry our key economic drivers of this busy, full-service community.


The Township serves a population of approximately 1900 people and is seeking to hire a recent
graduate of Engineering Technology, Asset Management, Accounting, Business Management, or
related field, to assist in the development and management of an updated Asset Management
registry.
