The Group of Seven Lake Superior Trail Association is a tourism development project connecting
the Group of Seven painting sites with a hiking trail from Pukaskwa National Park to Neys Provincial
Park. The Group of Seven made annual trips to the Marathon area from 1921-1928.

Position: 52-week contract position, 35 hours/week with possible extension. This position is
partially funded by FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program.

Business Development Coordinator
Based in Marathon, ON, the Business Development Coordinator will work closely with the Project
Coordinator to build relationships and partnerships with businesses in the Marathon area and
region that support the development of the Group of Seven Trail and visitors.

Key Responsibilities include:
• Assist with creating a trail tourism destination in Marathon and surround area
• Assist with developing and distribution of trail information
• To assist with implementing strategies and education to help new businesses or existing
businesses fill gaps in the goods or services that trail users require with in the Town of
Marathon and immediate region
• To liaise and educate local businesses on the economic benefits of meeting the trail tourist
• As success builds, promote the “trail-friendly” character of Marathon to attract more trail
• Work with local businesses to theme their spaces with Group of Seven images that reflect
the art that was created here over 100 years ago as part of a town beautification project
• Work with partners such as Superior North Community Futures Development Centre to
support business through business support services around the trail
• Working with neighbouring community of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, Pukaskwa National Park
and Neys Provincial Park to promote the entire trail corridor as a tourist destination
• Work with trail crew members to establish a safe, fun and inclusive working environment

• Positively represent G7 Trail’s mission and programs in all interactions with trail users and
the public
• Any other duties as determined or as opportunities arise

• Able to work with volunteer boards/committees
Requirements: Young people being considered for a youth internship must:
• be unemployed or underemployed youth (persons aged 30 and under);
• have graduated within the last three years with a degree, diploma or certificate from a
recognized post-secondary institution;
• be legally entitled to work in Canada;
• have not previously participated as a youth intern in FedNor's Northern Ontario
Development Program or in any other federal or provincial internship program with pay
for a period of six months or more


This trail is a partnership project between the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg (formerly Ojibway’s of the Pic
River First Nation) and the Town of Marathon. The Group of Seven Trail is the primary economic
project of Marathon’s growing tourism and ecotourism priority sectors.

The Town of Marathon is a small community (3,000 population) on the north shore of Lake
Superior, just north of Pukaskwa National Park. The town boasts many amenities like a grocery
store, shopping mall, library, hospital and many more all while being surrounded by breathtaking
