Our Environmental Stewardship Technicians work with our LakeSmart program. LakeSmart is an environmental outreach program managed by LOWDSA during summer. LakeSmart assists the Association with delivery of environmental education while raising LOWDSA’s profile in the watershed.

- Duties:

- Act as LOWDSA ambassadors
- Conduct visits by boat and car to waterfront residents to promote sustainable shoreline living & living green at the lake
- Expand LOWDSA’s virtual outreach programming
- Liaise with community groups and resource professionals to assist in the development of invading species awareness initiatives
- Document invasive species (identification & mapping) and sampling to monitor water quality
- Coordinate community participation in stewardship and public monitoring activities
- Deliver environmental education and public outreach programs to various community and lake organizations in addition to various community events
- Document and track analytics reports in real time
- Qualifications:

- Strong organizational and people skills
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Knowledge of issues surrounding shoreline health
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; e.g. public speaking, contributing articles to newspapers/newsletters/magazines
- Familiarity with the Lake of the Woods region including strong navigation skills is a key asset
- Demonstrated proficiency in using marine equipment safely and according to legislation
- Plant, fish, and invertebrate identification skills
- Experience networking with professionals/agencies and engaging volunteers/public
- Demonstrated proficiency with social media and other related computer skills (MS Office programs, )
- Knowledge of field work principles (accurate data recording, use of equipment, reports)

- Valid Pleasure Craft Operators Card
- Able to work flexible hours including weekends
- CPR/Standard First Aid Certificate is an asset
