The Finance Manager will manage the day-to-day financial operations of the Ontario Native Women’s Association and ensure timely production of reports for management and governance. They will lead and manage a team to ensure the financial planning function across the organization, meets the highest level of customer service.

This role partners heavily with cross functional leaders, including the Director of Finance and Administration to develop business strategies to achieve both near and long-term goals.
Working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment to ensure the ONWA establishes sound standards of performance, compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and compliance with relevant federal/provincial legislation.
The Finance Manager will lead financial analysis and is accountable for championing controls and ensuring integrity within core processes while mitigating risk to the organization. They will ensure compliance with regulatory and legislative standards and plan for continuous improvement and efficiency. The Finance Manager will provide sound financial management to support the attainment of strategic goals, risk management and key business plans for the Ontario Native Women’s Association.
RESPONSIBILITIES - SPECIFIC:
- Oversee and manage all financial aspects for the ONWA.
- Develops, research and presents the operating budgets and forecasts, and monitors/performs financial analysis of actual performance against projections.
- Participates in and implements financial policies and procedures to ensure strong and effective internal controls.
- Participate in the provision of effect strategic, financial and human resources planning and information management.
- Provide financial advice and guidance to all cross functional leaders including Managers and Director or Finance and Administration and assist in resolving questions and issues.
- Examine and analyze journal and ledger entries, bank statements, inventories, expenditures, tax returns and other accounting and financial records, documents and systems of the Association to ensure financial recording accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards, procedures and internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with financial legislation, policies and procedures and contribution agreements.
- Participate in strategic and financial planning.
- Prepare, provide and present quarterly periodic financial reports.
- Prepare comprehensive financial statements including regular and detailed cash flow projections.
- Coordinate and oversee the internal and external audit of the accounting records and all financial statements.
- Respond to auditor’s comments concerning finances and operations and oversee required actions to address deficiencies.
- Develop, manage, monitor and implement efficient and accurate accounting, payroll, purchasing and financial systems and maintain full and accurate accounting records.
- Monitor the purchasing system.
- Establish and maintain cash controls.
- Monitor department spending and recommend corrective actions, as necessary.
- Manage investments and reserves.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Finance staff to ensure efficient use of human resources.
- Completes all Program financial reports to all funders.
- Other duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES – ADMINISTRATIVE:
- Complete monthly and submit to Director when required.
- Complete quarterly reports on or before the requested due date.
- Complete reports to funders as required.
- Complete and attend supervisions with Director on a regular basis.

- Promote the program within the community.
- To adhere to professionalism in representing the organization at all times and maintain good communications.

- Trauma-Based Practice Informed – Understands to incorporate a trauma-informed approach to recognize and respond to all forms of trauma and the necessity of supporting Indigenous women in a culture of tradition and safety in her healing journey.
- She is Wise Leadership Informed – Understands to incorporate the Four Agreements within daily responsibilities and combined with ONWA’s cultural teachings contribute to the empowerment and leadership of Indigenous women within their communities.
- Completed undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM); Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant CA), Certified General Accountant (CGP) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
- 3 – 5 years’ experience working within a not-for-profit sector, preferably within an Indigenous organization.
- Knowledge of Ontario not-for-profit Governance, Board and Bylaws and relevant legislation.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with demonstrated self-confidence and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently within strict deadlines.
- Experience with finance software, specifically Sage 300 and/or Sparkrock.
- Experience with service provision Indigenous organizations/communities.
- Excellent interpersonal and management skills including demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff;
- Proven ability to build trusting relationships at all levels and across all functions.
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence across the organization.
- Creative, flexible and strategic change focused.
- Decision making skills to set standards and priorities and allocate time and resources.
- Ability to prioritize programs and activities within budget and time considerations.
- Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment.
- Ability to travel.
- Reliable vehicle, appropriate vehicle insurance coverage and valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license.
- Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
- A cellular phone and internet access is required within this position
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
