St. John Ambulance (SJA) is a voluntary agency dedicated to improving the health, safety and quality of life of Ontarians through training and community service. We are seeking dynamic individuals who are wanting to work on their own schedule and who can demonstrate experience & skill in facilitating training in an adult classroom setting. Community affiliation and experience in the volunteer sector is an asset. Must possess excellent communication skills.

- Instruct weekday, weekend, or evening First Aid, CPR and AED courses for industry and general public
- Maintain and renew instructor certification as per Ontario Council
- Serve as a role model and representative of St. John Ambulance
- When new First Aid protocols come out, implement these revised procedures and materials in a timely manner, as directed by Council
- Actively teach, perform, and promote decontamination procedures according to the current standards
- Assist the Branch in community training and participate in community education and awareness campaigns. Be willing to speak to community groups.
- Practice continuous professional development by training for specialty courses if required, and attend quarterly Instructor meetings
- Comply with all instructor policies and guidelines as prescribed by the Branch and by Ontario Council
- Actively promote St. John Ambulance community service programs, volunteer opportunities, first aid kits & supplies and AED sales and training at every opportunity, and during all classes
- High School, College or University education
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to act in an efficient, organized manner with minimal supervision
- Initiative, problem solving skills, and sound judgment
- Computer skills - MS Office
Prerequisites for Position
- Valid Standard & Basic Life Support (BLS) AED certificate. This 2-day course is offered by St. John at a cost of $175.00
- Must complete the 5 -day Instructor Development Program at a cost of $599.00, team teach a course and be monitored. The Instructor Development Course will be held the week of November 23, 2020. Deadline to register is October 1st. You will earn this money back very quickly once you start teaching courses.
Physical or Mental Effort
- Physical effort required -e.g. carrying first aid equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs. Working Conditions
- General classroom and office environment
- Must be willing to teach off-site as required. Vehicle and valid Drivers Licence is necessary
- Available to work; days, evenings and weekends, with the focus being on weekday availability
- Out of town travel throughout Northwestern ON or to First Nation communities may be required
