NFMC Forestry is looking to fill multiple silvicultural summer student positions from May to late August 2022. Applicants must have a strong work ethic, the ability to work outdoors in all weather, and can work independently in remote locations. Housing and work trucks will be provided. The positions are based out of Manitouwadge, ON.

• Assist with supervision of the 2022 tree plant program(s), conduct renewal area monitoring/reporting, assist with the aerial herbicide application program, and       the mechanical site preparation program;
• Conduct competition and survival assessments, tree plant quality assessments, and free to grow assessments as directed by the supervisor;
• Utilise a handheld GPS and tablet to transfer, track, and record collected field data;
• Conduct field work in remote and isolated areas;
• Report and document health, safety, and compliance issues to supervisor;
• Various Operations duties such as bridge cleaning, infrastructure inspections/inventories, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.


• Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent;
• Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in, or in possession of, a Forestry/Natural Resource Technician Diploma/Degree;
• Must demonstrate interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills;
• Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
• Must provide high-quality project data in a timely, professional, and effective manner;
• Capable of demonstrating strong work ethic;
• Demonstrated willingness to work alone outdoors in inclement weather, exposed to biting insects, in remote locations for long periods of time;
• Be comfortable with possible wildlife encounters (bears, moose, etc.);
• Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, GPS, and GIS technology;
• Previous experience in operational silviculture is an asset;
• Knowledge of the OH&S Act and completion of Standard First-Aid is an asset;
• Experience driving on forestry access “bush roads” is an asset;
• Must possess a valid Ontario “G” Class Driver’s License, or equivalent;

• Staff housing will be provided in Manitouwadge, Ontario;
• Vehicles will be provided for work transportation;
